Conserving natural resources for our own and future generations.
A sustainable future depends on our ability to recover and reuse raw materials from waste and contribute toward building a circular economy. Wasteco’s Trim Your Waste Program can help your operation recover and divert reusable materials from your waste stream and direct them to new purposes such as the manufacturing of new products (“closing the loop”) or conversion to energy (“waste-to-energy”). Our skilled team of environmental experts will use the information they collect from a Waste Audit to create a Waste Reduction Work Plan. Recovery and recycling conserve resources, reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, and decrease our dependence on natural resources.
Some facilities are required by law to have source separation programs. Click here to see if your facility falls under one of the regulated categories.
Our recycling services include:
Paper and Cardboard
Paper recycling has a long history, dating back over 2,000 years to the earliest days of papermaking. Today, most of the paper we use contains fibre from recycled paper. Products made from recycled paper include newspaper, paper bags, cardboard boxes, and corrugated cardboard.
Items suitable for recovery include:
- File folders
- Office paper
- Newspapers and magazines
We also offer Secure Shredding for all your sensitive paper documents. Wasteco can work with you to manage all of your paper and cardboard waste.
Bottles, Cans and Plastics
When you look around, you probably see many items made from recycled bottles, aluminum cans or plastic. Recovery and recycling of raw materials like these significantly reduces air and water pollution and helps our society become less reliant on non-renewable fossil fuel and mineral resources.
Items suitable for recovery include:
- Aluminum and steel cans
- Glass bottles
- Milk and juice cartons
- Plastic yogurt and fruit cups
When organic materials such as food waste are sent to landfills, they decompose over time and produce greenhouse gases, especially methane. Recovery of organic waste from food processors, retailers, restaurants, convention centres and hotels represents a tremendous opportunity to participate in the local green economy and contribute to a sustainable future.
Wasteco provides clean bins at each pickup for the sanitary collection of organic material and elimination of biodegradable bags. Organics are transported to a network of local processors where the food waste is broken down via anaerobic digestion to produce biogas. The clean renewable energy produced can be a source of base load electrical power or it can be converted to either natural gas or compressed natural gas (CNG).
Click here for a list of unacceptable items for the organics waste recovery stream, as these items cannot be broken down via anaerobic digestion.

The recycling of electronic devices is a fast-growing market in the global economy. E-waste such as old computers, copiers, cell phones, tablets and hard drives contains a range of recyclable materials including plastics and precious metals such as gold, silver, palladium, platinum, copper and cobalt. Under Ontario law, only approved waste handlers may disassemble these devices and recover the materials they contain. Wasteco is a registered provider for the full range of your electronic waste recycling. In our specialized facilities, waste electronic products are shredded and separated into individual commodities for further refining and reuse. All materials are then shipped to an authorized OES (Ontario Electronic Stewardship) processor. Outputs are all recycled responsibility through physically audited downstream vendors. Wasteco provides complete documentation on material disposal.

Construction and Demolition Waste
Waste from construction and demolition activities contains a variety of materials, many of which are recyclable. These waste streams typically include recoverable wood, glass, scrap metal in addition to materials such as concrete, bricks, drywall, ceramic materials, and soil. Each situation is unique. Let Wasteco’s expert staff work with you to develop solutions that ensure the highest possible diversion rate for your operation.

Waste from industrial and manufacturing operations can include a range of hazardous materials including waste chemicals, solvents, oils, cleaning products, and medical wastes. Ontario law requires special handling of these materials to reduce impacts on human health and the environment. Waste generators must register with the government to provide a record of the types and locations of waste generation, and must track off-site movement of hazardous wastes using a manifest.
